The report reveals that Northern Europe is the region with the highest internet usage as a percentage of the total population globally. In Sweden, 97.2% of the population (10.28 million) were internet users in 2022.

On average, Swedes spent 6 hours on the internet daily in 2022; a decrease of 5 percent compared to the previous year.

Furthermore, Swedish people spend an additional 1 hour and 42 minutes on music and streaming services daily on average, and 55 minutes on podcasts. Does the average reflect you?

Main Reasons for Using the Internet in Sweden

There are many different reasons why people in Sweden use the internet.

The main reason is to find information (76%) followed by staying in touch with friends and family (64.7%) and getting updates on news and events (64.6%).

If you compare what Swedes search for most frequently on Google, it is:

In Sweden, 82.2% of the total population are active users of social media.

Furthermore, the Swedish population spends an average of 1 hour and 58 minutes on social media every day. Which actually is a decrease of 3.3% compared to 2021.

COVID-19 was more extensive in 2021 than in 2022 and this could possibly explain why the use of social media has decreased.

Swedish people used social media more when the pandemic restricted them from doing other activities.

Facebook is the most used platform by Swedes, with 77.1% of internet users aged 16-64 using the platform every month.

However, the favorite social media platform of the Swedes turns out to be Instagram, followed by Facebook and Facebook Messenger.

TikTok is still behind Snapchat in fifth place surprisingly.

Main Reasons for Using Social Media in Sweden

The main reason Swedes aged 16-64 use social media is to keep in touch with family and friends (59%).

Furthermore, 38.5% say they use social media to fill their spare time.

Perhaps surprisingly, only 14.5% claim to use social media for following celebrities and influencers.

Digital & Social Media Statistics for Sweden [Updated 2023]

As critical figureheads, Chief Executive Officers play a key role in how corporations are perceived by the public, and so it's vital that organizations keep their fingers on the pulse of CEO-focused media.

In collaboration with .companion, a data consultancy and KPI expert, Meltwater presents the 2023 CEO Echo; a monthly media intelligence analysis of CEOs heading up some of the world's largest brands. The ranking leverages Meltwater's media intelligence capabilities and automated analysis by the .companion bot to offer readers highlights and benchmarks across the following areas:

CEO Echo for February 2023: 7% less CEO mentions

Last month, the .companion CEO metrics bot found 7% less CEO menti ons than the average of the previous month's average. Overall, 49% of mentions captured by the CEO Echo were generated by editorial online content, while social media generated 51%. In February, CEO Echo content saw engagement jump by 546%. 49% of all CEO mentions were related to financial news, meaning they simply referred to company figures that are often required to be disclosed by law. In contrast, the context of 51% of mentions was linked to corporate agendas. Overall, the tonality of mentions was equally positive and negative. 

Bernard Arnault, LVMH CEO, dominates with 15% CEO Echo coverage

What role does a CEO play in a company's overall corporate messaging, whether voluntary or involuntary? The CEO Digital Footprint aims to answer this question.

In February, Bernard Arnault, CEO of LVMH, received the highest amount of media coverage. His share of voice totalled 14.9%, the largest footprint of all top board members. In second place was Bernard Looney, CEO of BP, with 4.2%, and Pat Gelsinger, CEO of Intel, took the third spot with 3.0% share of all mentions. 83% of conversations around Arnault’s echo were not related to company financials, and thus were above average for agenda-driving topics and content. 11% of the LVMH CEO's echo came from editorial media and 89% from social media. Content that mentioned Arnault generated 15 interactions (clicks, shares, likes) per mention. This shows that audiences are highly engaged and made Arnault the 55th most engaged CEO in the ranking. In total, mentions for Bernard Arnault were more often negative than positive. We can assume this had a corresponding impact on his overall reputation. 

Thales’ CEO, Patrice Caine, takes the number 1 spot

Two common goals widely shared by media teams are communicating key messages and building a favorable reputation, both of which rely heavily on editorial mentions. The Communication Excellence ranking analyses and aggregates media volume (removing financial report listings).

Patrice Caine, CEO of Thales, was ranked first in February. Outside of the paywall, 83% of his digital echo discussed the CEO in stories beyond financial figures. Stories generated 5100 engagements per mention, signifying readers are highly interested. Furthermore, coverage was more positive than negative. As a result, the response to Thales’ CEO received 31.3 points. Pekka Lundmark, CEO of Nokia came in second place with a score of 4.8 and Rajesh Gopinathan, CEO of Tata Consultancy Services, took third place with a Communication Excellence score of 2.2 points.

These days, simply having a social media profile is not enough. If you want to have an impact on opinion leaders outside of editorial offices, or on consumers and digital elites who are not easily accessible through the mass media, you have to be mentioned frequently on social media. The Social Excellence Index answers whether a company's attempts at this have been successful.

Last month, Mark Read, CEO of WPP, topped the ranking with a Social Excellence score of 3.6 points. 66% of the conversation came from social media and his engagement was engaged with 9 interactions per mention. Moreover, the sentiments of his mentions were 11% positive, meaning Read was ahead of runners-up Bilal Eksi, CEO of Turkish Airlines, with 3.3 points and Daniel Ek, CEO of Spotify Technology, who placed third with 3.3 points.

Patrice Caine, CEO of Thales, has the highest number of mentions surrounding social responsibility

The .companion metrics bot also determines whether CEOs appear in the digital media as leaders in the context of the UN's sustainable development goals, e.g. in the context of social responsibility or climate and environmental protection. Our Responsibility Index shows how well this has been achieved. For this index, the metrics bot only analyses mentions related to sustainability-related topics.

In February, Patrice Caine, CEO of Thales, saluted us from first place in the responsibility ranking, with 38% of Thales CEO's mentions related to social responsibility topics. His engagement rate was 11068 which can be considered highly engaged. The tonality of media conversations was significantly more positive than negative. Overall, Caine’s Responsibility Index came to 26.3 points. Christian Bruch, CEO of Siemens Energy, followed in second place with 7.2 points, and Frans Muller, CEO of Ahold Delhaize/Royal Ahold Delhaize N.V., in third place with 1.7 points.

CEO mentions in the context of balance sheet figures offer little scope for setting content-related agendas but are crucial for building investor confidence. In this environment, the metrics bot determines which CEOs were mentioned from a financial standpoint, forming an index for investor communication.

In February, the .companion metrics bot identified Vodafone Group's CEO, Margherita Della Valle, as the top communicator for investors after she achieved 36.9 points. 87% of her mentions were related to the financial environment, which is 1.4 times this month's average. Her readership was highly interested, indicated by an engagement rate of 3614.3, and she experienced more negative than positive comments. She is followed in second and third place by Hatem M G Dowidar, CEO of Etisalat, with 5.0 points and Pat Gelsinger, CEO of Intel (4.5 points).

How to Use Customer Profiling in Marketing

Customer profiling (also called persona mapping or marketing profiling) is the process of using data to discover your customers’ characteristics, buying habits, motivations, needs, and other details. These profiles, also called buyer personas, will guide your marketing efforts to ensure your messaging, offers, and products resonate with the right people.

Many businesses have different customer types. Learning what these types are allows you to market to each type in ways that will be well received.

Customer profiling improves the way you target and engage potential customers. You have a clearer picture of who you’re talking to in mind and can have more impactful conversations with them. 

Sales and marketing teams can avoid wasting time and resources on the wrong customers. Your marketing becomes more targeted to customers that fit your business model and products. This is key to creating personalized experiences that will help your advertising stand out.

Reaching the right customers at the right time can improve engagement and response rates. The more engagement you receive, the more audience insights you can gather to improve your customer profiling. You’ll be able to reach even more customers who share similar characteristics.

Speaking to a targeted audience can reduce customer acquisition costs. Spend more time on better-fit customer personas and avoid spending time and money trying to convert customers who simply don’t fit the mold.

At a minimum, your ideal customer profile should contain the following:

Demographics (age, gender, income, industry, etc.)

Buying behavior (including patterns and history)

Job-related details (helpful for B2B and B2C customers)

You can define your client profile and customer groups however you like. Just make sure you’re including only relevant information that will support your sales and marketing strategies.

Learning how to create a customer profile can be a worthwhile effort, especially if you have a diverse customer base or multiple acquisition channels. Customer profiling helps you learn the nuances of each consumer or client so you can tailor your strategy to meet the needs of each one.

Let’s look at how to create a customer profile, step by step.

To understand your customer base, take a look at your best customers. These are the ones who have bought the most from you, buy the most frequently, or have been buying from you the longest. These are the customers you want to attract more of.

You might even segment your customers between products or services. For example, identify your best customers for each service or type of product you offer. 

Dial deeper into your data to see common traits across your best customers. List the most important attributes that will help you to define your customer profiling.

The channel through which you acquired the customer

Offers, promotions, or discounts they’ve acted on

This isn’t a complete list, but this data can help you find connections between consumers and why they choose your company. 

You will likely have more information for some customers than others. Sending these customers a survey can help to fill in any gaps in information and learn more about them. Focus on the missing attributes that will help you to create a stronger profile.

4. Enrich the profiles with additional data

Other first-party and third-party data sources, such as CRM, email, social media, and website analytics, can help you learn more about your customers. For example, you can use email open rates to determine which types of customers are most likely to open and act on your email marketing. Website analytics can reveal more about the customer journey map and the steps that lead to a purchase.

As you learn more about the data and details that define your ideal customer profile, develop a template that captures all of this information. An ideal customer profile template systematizes the process so you can build new personas in the future with ease. 

Customer profile analysis is never a one-and-done activity. As you add new products and services, acquisition channels, and marketing initiatives, your customer profiles may also evolve. Doing ongoing customer profile analysis ensures you have every opportunity to build deeper connections with your audience.

Creating your customer profiling examples is just the start. The next step is to deploy them in your marketing. There’s more than one way to go about this.

Use customer profiling to create marketing campaigns

One option is to choose a customer profile for your campaign and tailor your messaging and offer to speak directly to that person. Align your copy and creative with the customers’ needs to encourage them to act.

Addison Rae is the creator behind the fourth most followed TikTok account. She has amassed 88.9 million followers with her makeup videos, dance videos, and brand partnership videos.

Known mainly for his massively popular YouTube channel, Jimmy Donaldson aka Mr. Beast is the only creator on this list to have seen a significant jump from November 2022, increasing his TikTok followers from 58  to 77 million. 

Interestingly, his TikTok videos don’t seem to be simply re-hashing YouTube content, but are standalone clips that enhance rather than strictly repurpose. Many serve to promote his YouTube videos, but there is certainly differentiation in how his TikTok serves his brand.
