Facebook defines branded content as any content by a creator that “features or is influenced by a business partner for an exchange of value”.

The social network now asks creators and brands to use the Branded Content tool to tag the featured business partner when posting branded content.

Following the branded content tagging tool, the branded posts will have two identifiers: a “Paid” tag and a “with” tag, which identifies the business partner.

To mark branded content, the influencer needs to create a new Facebook update and then click the Handshake icon. This will open a “with” field, where the creator can name the business partner.

If the influencers can’t see the Branded Content tool (the Handshake icon), they can submit an application.

Facebook published new rules of what cannot be included in branded content.

An image or a video must not contain banner ads. A banner ad, as Facebook defines it, is a “branded column that  is overlaid onto and visually separated from the original image or video content”. Facebook prohibits banner ads “that span more than one-third of your video or image content.”

Facebook prohibits pre-roll, mid-roll, or post-roll ads in videos or audio content.

What are roll ads? These ads are promotional video messages that play before/after/during the content the user has selected.

The branded content guidelines forbid including roll ads anywhere in the videos.

Interstitial ad cards are cards “that feature the business partner and interrupt your video content”.

In order to offer Facebook users a better experience, Facebook prohibits interstitial cards in the first 3 seconds of video content and for longer than 3 consecutive seconds anywhere in the video.

In addition, “interstitial cards must not be included at the beginning, middle or end of an individual story within the Facebook Stories product”.

This should go without saying, but Facebook clarifies that a business shouldn’t use the Branded Content tool’s tagging option without the consent of the creator. Ask for permission first.

In addition to following all the rules and guidelines above, Facebook states that the influencers and brands must comply with all applicable laws, regulations and disclosures needed to indicate the commercial nature of the content.

Here’s an example of a branded post that is marked with the “Paid” tab, under the business partner (Estee Lauder UK), and also with an #Ad hashtag:

After tagging a post with the Branded content tool, the business partner (the brand, or product page) will be notified about the mention and will be able to see “high-level performance insights as well as have the ability to share the post to their Page and put additional spend behind it”.

To see the branded content insights, go to Facebook Business manager and then click Branded Content (can be found under the “Measure & Report” section).

Last year I spent a good amount of time researching ways to enable mass adoption of the slow fashion mindset. The market is definitely shifting to empower more conscious consumer behavior. Just a quick reminder that people who help you get dressed for a living are inspired by a wide variety of things. For me it’s films, magazines, art, fictional characters but sometimes it’s just other people in this space. Like @bashfulleo and @shokotatara !

I am often inspired by the way friends wear their clothes and play with color and it can inspire me to wear my own clothes in a new and different way. This dress by @norblacknorwhite is definitely what I’d consider an ethical fashion darling.  So many friends have this dress or variations and it’s a favorite of mine to reach for.  They really hit a home run with the print. I’ve never understood people who get pissy when others have the same items they have. Another fav in slow fashion spaces is the jewelry maker @onewemadeearlier.  I have four of their necklaces now and they can really add an element of fun to your outfit.  The underpants are the signature @shoparq 

There are few pieces in my wardrobe as worn and as loved as this 20 year old thrifted denim shirt.  Worn maybe 500 times by me and who knows by the first owner. 

Imma keep wearing these poly fleece leggings even though the thighs are so blown out I can’t tell the front from the back. Sometimes I feel like when you have a polyfibres product (my Mum bought these) you kinda have to roll with it until you truly can’t anymore. 

I’ve added some stripey socks for a surprising peek of more color on the leg and heavy boots with red soles.  And we’re done! How’d I do? Did I pay proper homage to Shoko’s look?  I hope I did!  Either way I’m going to definitely do this again because what is not to love? 

People always think that slowing down and changing your shopping habits means that things will get boring but actually I’d say it’s allowed my style to really become more polished and more fun. It lets me really enjoy my closet and dig into my pieces in ways which are creative. The slow fashion lifestyle is more fun than I was having before hands down."
