Tip: Learn more about influencer marketing in general within our Definitive Guide to Influencer Marketing.

A food influencer is a content creator who posts recipes, how-tos, diet tips, gardening tips, and more, on social media. They often work with kitchen appliance brands or meal prep companies. Sometimes food influencers are professional chefs or work in the food industry in some capacity, but are also commonly self-taught food enthusiasts.

Many food influencers are also food bloggers, and in fact their blog may have come before their social media presence. Food blogs are incredibly popular as they answer various questions, provide recipes and tips, and have active comment sections that often provide ingredient substitutions, whether for dietary restrictions or taste, and suggestions for cooking the recipe in different climates, or with different equipment.

So, unlike other types of modern influencers, like Instagram influencers, Facebook influencers, fashion influencers, beauty influencers, or sports and fitness influencers, which are typically social first, blog second, food influencers may use their social media platform to drive traffic to their food blog, which is where they actually make money as an influencer.

There are also more local influencers, like the top food influencers in Malaysia.

82% of Food influencers’ Followers are Female.

A majority of Food Influencer’s followers are Millenials, 48% are between 25-34 years old.

A majority of Food Influencers, 43%, are based in the US, and 36% are from California.

While followers’ main interest is Food content, they also enjoy content focused on Travel, and from Bloggers.

What #hashtags are Food Influencers Using?

What Are the Primary Channels for Food Influencers?

As mentioned above, many food influencers have accompanying blogs where they share recipes, tips, and cultivate community through engaged comment sections and email lists.

Other popular social media channels include TikTok, Pinterest, Instagram, and YouTube.

Food & beverage brands, appliance brands, grocery stores, food products, farms, food delivery services and apps, gardening companies, and similar organizations may want to partner with a food influencer.

They can spread the word about a particular product, demonstrate kitchen appliances or accessories, highlight companies dedicated to sustainable farming practices, or share recommendations for dietary supplements.

Using Meltwater Influencer Marketing, we identified food influencers in a number of different categories including vegan food influencers, baking influencers, and by follower size, looking at food influencers with followings of 1M or more, as well as micro food influencers.

While follower counts are important, they can be misleading if it’s the only metric you look at. The below lists are ranked by True Reach rather than follower number. True Reach does a better job at indicating the actual potential influence when it comes to the engagement and interaction of their online community.

This list of 10 food influencers have followings of 1 million or more across all channels.

With a presence of 12.6 million on TikTok, its safe to say Men With the Pot has taken the food world by storm.

Their videos use quick cuts, beautiful close-up shots, thrilling acrobatics such as tossing an onion in the air to land on a knife before chopping, and rustic open-fire cooking.

Their TikTok videos are endlessly enjoyable and the comment section is also fun to scroll through, as they've build a huge community of viewers who love their content. They average 2.9K comments per post!

Making a wide range of dishes inspired by different cuisines, both savory and sweet, Betel Tunc is known for her calm and pleasing aesthetic. She shares the full recipe in her descriptions, and the comment section is always engaging.

Hailing from the UK, Jalal has built a platform sharing healthy, high-protein recipes. This is a perfect example of a crossover with food and fitness influencers, who often incorporate food tips into their content.

40+ Global Food Influencers to Inspire You

Like everyone else, Dylan McKeever was forced to stay home during the Covid years. But, as a stand-up comedian, it meant the entire standing-up in front of a crowd element of her job was impossible to do. So, she took to social media creating hilarious videos which immediately took off, and was able to grow her following to over 27K on Instagram.

As a transgender influencer, Dylan has the unique perspective and voice that brands are searching for. And, she’s hilarious. Making her a perfect resource for brands looking to infuse comedy and inclusivity into a campaign.

Dylan spoke with us about her newfound influencer career, and how behind-the-scenes collaborations can support brands just as much as sponsored posts.

How have you used social media as a platform to connect with a wider audience?

When the pandemic started, and I was doing stand-up comedy. I had only started doing it for 6 or 7 months. And, lockdown happened and there was no more stand-up comedy. So, I started translating some of my stand-up jokes for the internet, the “small, small screen”.

It’s actually been one of the best things for my career. I wasn’t doing it before COVID, and the response has been super positive. Things have really taken off. It’s been nice, I’m almost surprised by the response. I’ve had a long creative career, and it’s really interesting to see something take off with popularity because I’m really used to creating within a void and releasing things into nowhere. That’s the attitude I’ve grown accustomed to, and social media has really changed that for me.

How has this impacted your ability to collaborate with brands?

As far as collaborating with brands, I’ve gotten a few gigs out of this. The ones that I like the most are the ones where I’m doing a lot of work on someone else’s campaign. I’ve done writing and acting for companies, consulting for ad campaigns. Actually, in many collaborations I’m not the face of the brand, I help more with joke writing and I actually like being behind-the-scenes.

As a comedian, I feel like I really need to be authentic and keep people’s trust. So, I shy away from doing a lot of sponsored collaborations because I’m still growing my following and want to keep their trust. That’s why when I work with brands I tend to do more voice-over work, acting, and consulting. I enjoy it more, and I think it fits who I am best.

When entering a collaboration, and maintaining your authenticity, what is your vetting process?

This is all pretty new, but when I enter a collaboration I am a little picky. I wouldn’t say I identify as an influencer per se, it’s not a label I use. So, I think it allows me to be more discerning.

That being said, if it’s a product I actually use and like I’d be happy to work with the brand. As long as it fits into my life, I feel like the collaboration is authentic.

What type of products would be ideal collaborations for you?

I drink so much Kombucha. I eat a lot of pickled onions. Avocados. I really love this specific Giorgio Armani Lip Gloss. It doesn’t dry out the lips. Honestly, just things I would use in my regular life, nothing random.

It’s not so much about the brand, it’s more of a question to myself, “Would I use this?”. I don’t like telling people what to buy unless I’m actually using it.

In a post-corona world, do you see yourself continuing your online comedy?

I think so. I’m signing with managers, so that will change the process of getting gigs and writing jobs. I’m not sure how that will impact influencer-style collaborations. But, I really love the consulting element of it. Brands come to me, I give them a suggestion, and they bring my idea to life. It’s really an interesting process to see come to fruition.

What does your consultant process look like?

I’m working on Pride campaigns right now, and they are trying to get an authentic voice for some of the Queer stories they are trying to tell. And, also joke writing. That is more challenging because I am not used to writing for a brand. A lot of jokes I think of, I realize it would be okay if I said it but not a brand, so it’s a learning process.

So is behind-the-scenes work your ideal influencer role?

I think so. Writing is really one of my strengths, and I think I’m different from other influencers who aren’t comedians.

I also think there can be some tension being the face of a product. I was actually going to be the face of an abortion pill. And, I am trans, so I can’t get pregnant. I thought it would be weird if I was the face of the product. So, I suggested I just write the campaign and someone else performs it. That ended up being a good idea.

It’s really a balancing act of figuring out if my face should be on something. That’s also why doing voice-over work is fun.

Are you on other channels besides Instagram?

I started doing TikTok. It’s really fun there! It’s so much more loose and joyful than Instagram.

Did you guys know books have a buncha words in them??

I’m not the best at making short content, I go over a minute all the time. When I first got TikTok I would post and then leave, because I was afraid the teenagers would make fun of me. I actually didn’t read the comments for a few months. Then I came back and everyone was nice so I stayed.

Influencer Inspiration: How Dylan Mckeever Got Lemons and Made Damn Good Lemonade

Ethical fashion is a hot topic, especially as consumers learn more about the dirty secrets of the fashion industry. With fashion trends like fast fashion and single-use clothing gaining steam, eco-conscious content creators are fighting back by speaking up about sustainable alternatives. There’s much to be learned from sustainable fashion influencers, and we’re sharing the top influencers to follow and partner with to strengthen your eco-friendly campaigns.

Sustainable fashion influencers can reflect a brand’s commitment to a better future. Follow these 15 ethical fashion influencers for inspiration:

Tip: Take a look at the top global fashion influencers and the top sustainability influencers to inspire you and download the fashion industry's new era report for free.

Sustainable fashion refers to clothing, accessories, and other fashion-related items that are produced in a socially responsible way. It emphasizes environmental sustainability to reduce waste and avoid the need to constantly produce new products. Manufacturers consider the impact on the planet when producing fashion products and consciously source eco-friendly or low-waste materials. Sustainability also refers to the ways in which companies market their fashion products. Companies that promote sustainable fashion also advocate for long-lasting materials, “timeless” styles, and recycling items at the end of their life cycles.

Tip: Take a look at the top fashion influencers globally, and learn more about corporate sustainability.

How Influencers Promote Sustainable Fashion

Sustainable fashion influencers (also called fair trade influencers or ethical fashion influencers) help brands amplify their message about eco-conscious clothing choices. They care about sustainability and have built their personal brands around their sustainable lifestyles.

These content creators willingly share product recommendations, tips, and advice with their audience. They’ll also collaborate with brands on paid campaigns to spread the idea of sustainable living even further.

Take this ThredUp ethical fashion influencer campaign for example. Known as one of the biggest online thrift stores, ThredUp recruited influencers to help them promote a message of “second-hand first” and show how buying used can make the world a better place.

As with other influencers, ethical fashion influencers add an extra layer of authenticity to sustainable brands. They endorse and promote brands they believe are making a real difference, and their audiences notice.

Tip: Here you find more influencer campaign examples. If you’re collaborating with influencers, an influencer briefing template can centralize your efforts. It provides clarity on both sides of the relationship by putting your goals on paper and serving as a guide for the influencer.

15 Top Sustainable Fashion Influencers to Follow

Eco fashion brands, take note: These 15 sustainable fashion influencers may help to transform your next social media campaign.

Brooke ✨ Sustainable Fashion on Instagram: "A good pair of jeans is a closet staple we can all appreciate. While denim is a popular classic for many, there are some lesser-known downsides to your favorite pair of jeans.

One might assume that denim is a relatively sustainable material. After all, it is likely to be made out of the natural fiber cotton.

But the chemicals that go into the production process create a dangerous, toxic environment for workers and their communities. And we know sustainability doesn’t exist without worker safety.

And not all chemicals are bad, but we are talking carcinogens, hormone disrupters, and heavy metals. And unfortunately, many garment factories don’t have responsible chemical management and safety policies or even good wastewater treatment plans. This means that workers are unnecessarily exposed to danger and the surrounding community is often exposed to these chemicals in their waterways and environment.

Factories aren’t entirely to blame for this. Proper chemical management and wastewater treatment is expensive. And we know brands aren’t keen to pay more than the bare minimum for their clothes to be made. If a factory charges more in order to create safe procedures, the brand will leave and go to a cheaper option.

And these chemical treatments and the addition of synthetics into denim to make it stretchy make the garments hard to recycle.

To learn more about the denim industry, check out my article “Can Denim Ever Be Sustainable? + How Mud Jeans Is Changing The Industry!” on the @sustainablykindliving website.

I interviewed @mudjeans to learn about how they are counteracting these harmful practices and it definitely gave me hope in the solutions and future of denim!"

Ethical fashion influencer Aja Barber created the wildly popular #GetDressedWithMe series and hashtag. Here, she shows her fans how she ensembles sustainable outfits, matches colors and patterns, and embraces ethical fashion throughout her wardrobe. She also highlights the brands she wears—for example, this post featuring @norblacknorwhite received more than 4,660 likes!

Aja Barber on Instagram: "#GRWM #GetDressedWithMe

Just a quick reminder that people who help you get dressed for a living are inspired by a wide variety of things. For me it’s films, magazines, art, fictional characters but sometimes it’s just other people in this space. Like @bashfulleo and @shokotatara !

I am often inspired by the way friends wear their clothes and play with color and it can inspire me to wear my own clothes in a new and different way. This dress by @norblacknorwhite is definitely what I’d consider an ethical fashion darling. So many friends have this dress or variations and it’s a favorite of mine to reach for. They really hit a home run with the print. I’ve never understood people who get pissy when others have the same items they have. It means everyone’s got good taste yes and look at us supporting ethical fashion together.

Another fav in slow fashion spaces is the jewelry maker @onewemadeearlier. I have four of their necklaces now and they can really add an element of fun to your outfit. The underpants are the signature @shoparq

There are few pieces in my wardrobe as worn and as loved as this 20 year old thrifted denim shirt. Worn maybe 500 times by me and who knows by the first owner.

Imma keep wearing these poly fleece leggings even though the thighs are so blown out I can’t tell the front from the back. Sometimes I feel like when you have a polyfibres product (my Mum bought these) you kinda have to roll with it until you truly can’t anymore.

I’ve added some stripey socks for a surprising peek of more color on the leg and heavy boots with red soles. And we’re done! How’d I do? Did I pay proper homage to Shoko’s look? I hope I did! Either way I’m going to definitely do this again because what is not to love?

People always think that slowing down and changing your shopping habits means that things will get boring but actually I’d say it’s allowed my style to really become more polished and more fun. It lets me really enjoy my closet and dig into my pieces in ways which are creative. The slow fashion lifestyle is more fun than I was having before hands down."

Sustainable fashion advocate Stella McCartney recruited the help of influencers with the #ThereSheGrows hashtag campaign. Fans dedicating a tree to the campaign can use the hashtag, which elicits a donation from the brand to the rainforest conservation group Canopy Planet.

Tell Brand Stories Through Influencer Content

The best influencer matches are those where brand values and sentiments align. These are the building blocks of how to build a successful influencer marketing strategy.

Home goods company West Elm partners with ethical fashion blogger Aditi Mayer to showcase that fashion isn’t just what you wear but also how you adorn your home. With clear alignment in personal values, Aditi’s image-rich storytelling adds another layer to the sustainability conversation in an authentic and engaging way.

How to Work with Sustainable Fashion Influencers

Fair trade influencers play a powerful role in raising awareness about sustainable fashion and encouraging others to adopt more sustainable practices. Let’s explore some tips for brands seeking to work with influencers to grow their footprint and heighten awareness.

Find and Vet the Right Sustainable Fashion Influencers

Finding the right influencers with the best fit is crucial for launching a successful influencer campaign. You want to ensure your influencer partners share your values, align with your brand, and can help you get the results you expect.

Many brands look for influencers in a specific niche, then shortlist their options based on audience size. But don’t stop there.

You can also look at their affiliations. For example, do they partner with the same charity shop over and over? Do they belong to any professional organizations? Take some time to get to know your potential influencers before you reach out with a proposal.

A large audience doesn’t guarantee more engagement (or more conversions). Instead, focus on engagement in relation to the audience size. An influencer’s following might be smaller, but they’re likely to be more interested in the content the influencer shares.

Tip: The right influencer KPIs will help you look at the best metrics to evaluate your partners.

Once you have a few influencers you’re considering, give them a follow on social media. This makes it easy to stay up to date on the content they post. You can start building familiarity with their styles and personalities. This is a great way to see how your brand might fit into their content creation approach.

You can also use Klear to make a formal introduction. Take advantage of the Meltwater influencer marketing capabilities to spark a conversation and keep it going. The coronavirus pandemic has upturned our lives, completely redefining the way we communicate. Social media usage is up and brands are finding new ways to connect with their audience, most of whom are self-isolating at home.

As screen time increases, many have been utilizing new features like Instagram Live (IG Live) to drive engagement and provide valuable content during this time. In fact, in a recent study, we observed that Instagram Live’s popularity surged 288% from March 15 – April 14. And, this popularity is not just with influencers and celebrities, from fitness to food to performing arts to playboy, many different brands are utilizing this unique feature.

IG Live is a component within Instagram Stories, that allows for real-time video streaming and audience interactions (comments and likes).
