Although Facebook has more competition now than it used to, it’s still the largest social media site, by monthly active users. So you can still reach and engage audiences on Facebook by sharing high-quality, relevant content. 

Eye popping imagery and video are extremely important content types for any brand trying to build engagement today. Image sizes on Facebook vary, so it’s always important to check and make sure that you’re optimizing for multiple devices, and have the correct aspect ratios.

Facebook Business Page Profile Photo Size

Your Facebook profile photo is the main, square image that represents your brand or personal profile. It appears layered over the cover photo. Facebook now offers bits of “flair” that you can add to your profile picture to show your support of social justice causes, celebrate seasons, and more.

The Facebook profile photo also appears when you post over page walls or when you comment on other posts. 

Social media dimensions for a Facebook profile picture:

On desktop, Facebook profile pictures are located 16 pixels from the left and 176 pixels from the top of your cover photo.

On smartphone devices, profile pictures are located 24 pixels from the left, 24 pixels from the bottom and 196 pixels from the top of your cover photo.

There are a few similarities between a personal profile picture and your Facebook Business Page but there are certain characteristics that will make your Facebook business page profile image stand out more on the platform.

Facebook cover photos, also called banner images, only appear on your specific Facebook page, layered behind your profile picture.

For the best results, ensure that you upload an sRGB JPG file that is less than 100 KB.

As one of the common ways of sharing content on Facebook, shared images as posts will always appear on your timeline and should show up in most of your followers’ news feeds. 

The more people engage with your shared post, the more likely it is that the rest of your followers, and their followers, will see that activity. So it’s important to make sure that your shared Facebook images are eye-catching!

When you share a Facebook post with a link, you can allow the automatic snippet view to populate, as opposed to adding your own image to the post. This is a great way to encourage clicks, since the entire image essentially becomes a link. 

Link snippets on Facebook appear either as a small square image to the left and text on the right, or with a larger rectangular image on top with text underneath. How your snippet populates depends on how you set up the meta information when producing a landing page or blog page.

Facebook will also scale photos under the minimum dimensions. For the best results, increase the image resolution at the same scale as the minimum size.

In short, using Instagram analytics for business is a must!

You can access Instagram analytics via Instagram’s built-in features. You can also use a platform or tool like Meltwater's Social Media Analytics Features within our Social Listening Tool to support and add context to your findings.

Instagram provides a range of marketing metrics and information to support your strategy. 

Instagram’s native analytics tool can be accessed within the Instagram app – no separate tool or download is required.

Many of the key metrics mentioned above can be broken down by individual posts, such as the number of likes, comments, and shares on your top posts. Likewise, you can break down some of these important metrics even further by features, such as Instagram Stories or Instagram Reels.

Some of this data can be very basic, such as follower count, likes, shares, or comments. It gives you a snapshot of a moment in time but doesn't reveal much about your strategy as a whole.

And some of the data can provide deeper insights and add context to your basic metrics. For example, is your audience growing over time? Has engagement on your posts increased, decreased, or remained about the same over a six-month period?

To benefit from all that Instagram analytics has to offer, you’ll first need to sign up for a business profile or creator account. If you only have a personal account, you can easily switch to an Instagram business account.

To see Instagram analytics, follow these steps:

Go to your Instagram profile via the mobile app.

Tap the hamburger menu in the upper-right corner.

Choose the Overview for a general breakdown or tap specific content for a more detailed Instagram report.

Currently, accessing Instagram insights on desktop is not an option. You can only view insights via the mobile app.

The Instagram analytics tool within the app is free to use. It offers basic helpful information at a glance and can help you build your IG marketing foundation. But for more serious social media strategies, you may want to look into a third-party Instagram analytics app that gives deeper contextual insights, such as IG sentiment, competitive benchmarking, and Instagram reports.

The way you use Instagram Analytics will largely depend on your goals. Let’s look at how to get insights on Instagram.

Top 5 countries and cities where your followers live

The hour/day they were on Instagram over the last 7 days

You can use this data in conjunction with other details, such as post engagement rates, to figure out who you’re talking to and what they like about you.

Post insights dial deeper into individual post performance. You can see how many likes, shares, and social comments a specific post received. If you’ve included hashtags in your posts, you’ll also receive Instagram hashtag analytics here. This is helpful to see how many people found your post through hashtags.

It's also a great way to spot your best-performing content. 

To access these insights, tap on the individual post, then scroll to the bottom. Tap View Insights to review your metrics.

These metrics are a great way to see if your posts are engaging your audience. Compare this data over time to see if your content is improving. A/B test your call to action and use your top-performing posts as examples of what your audience likes.

If you’re using Instagram Stories, you can get specific insights just like you would a regular post. Open the Instagram app, tap the menu in the corner and tap Insights, then scroll down to Stories.

Here you can see metrics for all stories over the past 30 days, or you can choose to view metrics for individual stories. Metrics are divided into three categories:

As critical figureheads, Chief Executive Officers play a key role in how corporations are perceived by the public, and so it's vital that organizations keep their fingers on the pulse of CEO-focused media.

In collaboration with .companion, a data consultancy and KPI expert, Meltwater presents the 2023 CEO Echo; a monthly media intelligence analysis of CEOs heading up some of the world's largest brands. The ranking leverages Meltwater's media intelligence capabilities and automated analysis by the .companion bot to offer readers highlights and benchmarks across the following areas:

CEO Echo for December 2023: 26% less CEO mentions

Last month, the .companion CEO metrics bot found 26% less CEO mentions than the average of the previous months. Overall, 62% of mentions captured by the CEO Echo were generated by editorial online content, while social media generated 38%. In December, CEO Echo content saw engagement rise by 44%.
47% of all CEO mentions were related to financial news, meaning they simply referred to company figures that are often required to be disclosed by law. In contrast, the context of 53% of mentions was linked to corporate agendas. Overall, the tonality of mentions was equally positive and negative.

Arvind Krishna, IBM CEO, dominates with 15% CEO Echo coverage

What role does a CEO play in a company's overall corporate messaging, whether voluntary or involuntary? TheCEO Footprintaims to answer this question.

In December, Arvind Krishna, CEO of IBM, received the highest amount of media coverage. His share of voice totalled 14,7%, the largest footprint of all top board members. In second place was Al Jaber, CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), with 6,9%, and Amanda Blanc, CEO of Aviva, took the third spot with 6,4% share of all mentions. 94% of conversations around Krishna's echo were not related to company financials, and thus were above average for agenda-driving topics and content. 11% of the IBM CEO's echo came from editorial media and 89% from social media. Content that mentioned Krishna generated 4 interactions (clicks, shares, likes) per mention. This shows that audiences are somewhat indifferent and made Krishna the 74th most engaged CEO in the ranking. In total, mentions for Arvind Krishna were negative significantly more often than positive. We can assume this had a corresponding impact on his overall reputation.

MTN Group's CEO, R Mupita, takes the number 1 spot

Two common goals widely shared by media teams are communicating key messages and building a favourable reputation, both of which rely heavily on editorial mentions. TheCommunication Excellence ranking analyses and aggregates media volume (removing financial report listings).

R Mupita, CEO of MTN Group, was ranked first in December. Outside of the paywall, 70% of his digital echo discussed the CEO in stories beyond financial figures. Stories generated 374 engagements per mention, signifying readers are highly interested. Furthermore, coverage was more positive than negative. As a result, the response to MTN Group’s CEO received 11,6 points. Alexandre Bompard, CEO of Carrefour came in second place with a score of 5,9 and Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault, took third place with aCommunication Excellence score of 3,3.

Nicola Leibinger-Kammüller, Trumpf’s CEO, wins first place

Simply having a social media profile is not enough. If you want to have an impact on opinion leaders outside of editorial offices or on consumers and digital elites who are not easily accessible through the mass media, you have to be mentioned frequently on social media. The Social Excellence Index answers whether a company's attempts at this have been successful.

Last month, Nicola Leibinger-Kammüller, CEO of Trumpf, topped the ranking with a Social Excellence score of 2,3 points. 86% of the conversation came from social media and her engagement was somewhat indifferent with 5 interactions per mention. Moreover, the sentiments of her mentions were 92% positive, meaning Leibinger-Kammüller was ahead of runners-up Rob Smith, CEO of Kion, with 2,3 points and Axel Dumas, CEO of Hermès, who placed third with 2,1 points.  

Martina Merz, CEO of Thyssenkrupp, has the highest number of mentions surrounding social responsibility

The .companion metrics bot also determines whether CEOs appear in the digital media echo as leaders in the context of the UN's sustainable development goals, e.g. in the context of social responsibility or climate and environmental protection. In December, Martina Merz, CEO of Thyssenkrupp, saluted us from first place in the responsibility ranking, with 72% of Thyssenkrupp CEO's mentions related to social responsibility topics. Her engagement rate was 193 which can be considered highly interested. The tonality of media conversations was as much positive as it was negative. Overall, Merz’s Responsibility Index came to 14,2. Dominik von Achten, CEO of Heidelberg Materials, followed in second place with 3,9 points, and Florent Menegaux, CEO of Michelin, in third place with 1,8 points.

Mike Roman, CEO of 3M, takes the number 1 spot for the financial echo

CEO mentions in the context of balance sheet figures offer little scope for setting content-related agendas but are crucial for building investor confidence. In this environment, the metrics bot determines which CEOs were mentioned from a financial standpoint, forming an index for investor communication.

In December, the .companion metrics bot identified 3M's CEO, Mike Roman, as the top communicator for investors after he achieved 13,1 points. 56% of his mentions were related to the financial environment, which is 58,8 times this month's average. His readership was highly interested, indicated by an engagement rate of 293, and he experienced more positive than negative comments. He is followed in second and third place by Merete Hverven, CEO of Visma, with 11,2 points and Gustav Witzøe, CEO of Salmar (7,4 points).
