Need to Understand the Digital Footprint of the Industry and Competitors

The Corporate Communications and the Digital Initiatives team at HCL Infosystems are responsible for a range of tasks such as digital advertising, demand generation, external and internal communication programmes, video production, managing social media channels and online sentiment & reputation. The team includes professionals with varied skill sets and utilises specialist tools to effectively fulfil these assorted tasks. Communication and coordination between internal communications, external communication, planning and analytics teams are key to ensure streamlined working and completion of the various digital initiatives.

Due to the need to stay constantly updated, the Corporate Communications team was looking for a tracking tool to automate and analyse industry updates and benchmark against competitors.

The marketing communications team upgraded from Google Alerts, Buzzsumo and Mentions to Meltwater due to its ability to track 290,000 sources globally.

We needed to monitor the digital footprint of the industry and competitors more comprehensively in real-time, for e.g. where is the competition spending money, what is being spoken about them in news and social media and so on with minimum manual intervention.

The Solution

Comprehensive Monitoring and Reporting Tools

By subscribing to the Meltwater’s listening solution, they were able to dive into conversations related to their competitors, and benchmark using the share of voice in news and social. Alongside competition, they monitored updates around their consumer products, consumer complaints, spokesperson and senior executives’ coverage within online media and so on. The ability to go back and track history is another feature the team finds useful, they can get access to past data whenever they need, through a simple search. The tool also gives them easily digestible reports in the form of interactive dashboards widgets that have the capability of drilling down at a given data point in real-time.

The Newsletter product helps HCL in solidifying their internal organizational communication to key stakeholders in the company. The team has automated the daily sharing of updates by simply cherry picking the articles they would like to share with the various stakeholders.
