What is Public Relations: Then and Now INFOGRAPHIC
Lately, ever since I researched press release history, I’ve been thinking a lot about the history of PR and the age old question: what is public relations? It’s an interesting question and pursuit from someone who’s been in the business many years, right? I figure that the more we understand our own jobs, and look at history and change, the better we’re prepared for tomorrow. The more I look to PR history, the more I see just how much has changed and how much of that change defines what PR is today.
So, as you can imagine, I was thrilled when I stumbled across an infographic that digs into the then-and-now of PR. I love that it not only paints a picture of today’s PR compared to the good old days, it also serves as a fantastic “what is PR” guide for novices. After all, by understanding the technology, activities, communication channels, audience, etc. used in any given profession, you learn quite a bit about what people do on a day-to-day basis.
Next time someone asks me “what is public relations,” I will send them a link to this very article/infographic and tell them to give it a read.
With that, a big thank you to the good folks at Inkhouse for putting this together!
